Symptoms of a failing ignition switch

An ignition switch is a very important electronic component found in many cars and trucks. It’s located on the steering column and right behind the ignition lock cylinder which is where you insert the key to turn over the engine. These both work in conjunction with one another to start your vehicle.

These ignition switches are used quite often beings it is utilized every time you turn your vehicle on and will eventually wear out over time, causing some possible symptoms listed below.

1. Stalls

The first symptom to look out for with a faulty ignition switch would be that your car suddenly stalls while the car is running. A failing ignition switch may end up cutting off power to the ignition and to your fuel systems which would in return cause the engine to stall and may or may not be able to start back up.

2. Starts and suddenly stalls

Another key symptom to watch out for is if your car starts and then immediately stalls afterwards. The ignition switch will supply power to your fuel pump and ignition system when you turn the key to the crank position and allow your vehicle to start but if fails then it will soon shut off once you are out of the crank position.

3. Trouble powering on accessories

Lastly, the next symptom to look for is trouble powering on your cars accessories. Turning the key to the accessory position should activate the ignition to power on the vehicles accessories but if that does not happen then that may be a sign of a faulty ignition switch.

Best Time To Buy A Car

The Beginning of The Year

In the early parts of the year is one of the best times to go car shopping. The dealerships are now clearing out their previous year’s models in order to make room for the newer models. Which this means that you could possibly score a great deal!

Although the prices have stayed steady over the years, there have also been clear drops in the average price of these top car brands at the beginning of each year.

This means that you should be able to find find a reduced prices from those automakers that are trying to meet the end-of-fiscal year sales targets and in turn, the competitors will drop their prices as well in order to maintain business.

Holidays

The holidays are always a great time to go shopping for those new, or old cars. Although summer is typically the most expensive time of the year for cars, around Memorial Day can be a good idea to look around on the market for some possible deals.

Another great time to look for deals on a vehicle is Black Friday. Whether you’re buying a new or used car, this is going to be a time for the best deal possible.

The End of the Month and Year

If you’re having a hard time waiting for the beginning of the year or for a big holiday sales event, then try to wait till the end of the month for some deals to pop up. At this time, sales associaties are typically trying to meet a monthly quota, which will make it even more likely that you could score a great deal.

Final Thoughts

Shop around at dealerships for their previous inventory at the beginning of the year, keep a lookout for deals and offers during major holidays throughout the year and make that final purchase towards the end of the month.

The two best holidays to shop for car sales are Black Friday and Memorial Day. As well, the end of the year is a great time to try and get a good deal on a car, as these dealerships are hoping to meet their quotas.

More Ways to Save

  • Use Kelley Blue Book to try and figure out for that certain car you have in mind.
  • Know exactly what you are signing up for before you make that final purchase and make sure that you are comfortable with the price of the car, payment price, insurance and interest rates.
  • Run the VIN number for that car, more specifically a used car, you’re looking to buy and try to get an inspection before singing paperwork for your purchase.

New Cars Are Moving Out of Reach For Middle-Class Shoppers

With an average vehicle price of over $35,000 and stagnant incomes, even lower interest rates still aren’t enough to allow people to purchase a new car.

Car Prices Are Rising, While Incomes Aren’t

In the second quarter of 2019, the average price for a new car was around $35,000 while the average car loan was around $32,119. The new cars and trucks of today cost nearly 38 percent more than they did just 10 years ago. Even some prices for SUVs and trucks are closer to 60 or 70 percent higher than in 2009. While the price of a car was rapidly increasing, household incomes weren’t. The average income in 2009 was around $59,000 and only jumped to $62,000 in 2018, which isn’t anywhere close to a 60, 70 or even 38 percent increase.

Monthly Payments Have Become Too High

It has been determined that a reasonable amount to spend on a vehicle is 10 to 15 percent of the monthly income you earn. For a middle-class shopper (around a $52,187 income) looking to buy a new car, a monthly payment around $400 would be deemed acceptable. But according to some auto-loan calculators, it suggests that you get a payment of $400 a month at a 4 percent interest, which means that that car loan would last for 84 months or seven years.

All of this still doesn’t mean that all new cars are out of range for a middle-class family. Check out my post of the Best Cars Under $16,000 because it offers several cheap cars that most families of today can afford upfront of via a cheap car loan. But also keep in mind that you don’t have to buy a new car, used cars are also a really great option as well. Each and every year, the average age of vehicles in the United States keeps going up, meaning that cars are lasting longer. Over the past several years, the number of new vehicles sold in the U.S. have remained steady at about 17 million annually, so expect there to be plenty of used cars available on the market to purchase.

Ford’s Mach E Electric SUV

Apparently Ford was not joking when they said they were going to make an electric crossover that looks similar to a Mustang. Spy photos of this new vehicle, called the Mach E, show off a few classic Mustang style pieces.

There’s also several similarities to that of a Jaguar I-Pace in the shape of the Mach E due to the fact that it long and low with smooth features like the Jaguar. But from the front, you can clearly see a Mustang by the shape of the grille cutout and the three-bar taillights that are a very signature part of a Mustang.

Although mechanically, it won’t share anything with the Mustang. It is said to ride on a new architecture built by Ford that is engineered specifically for EVs. That new architecture means there will now be a floor-mounted battery pack with up to 300 miles of range, as well as a front and rear mounted electric motor that is capable of all-wheel-drive.

More details by Ford about the Mach E will be shared when it is debuted on November 17. So in the meantime, you can sit back and wait for the arrival of this interesting new SUV by Ford.

Ford Bronco Will Officially Debut in Spring 2020

Ford is finally releasing one of their most hyped vehicles ever in spring 2020 with that being the all new Ford Bronco. The Bronco has been “dead” for nearly 20 years now and Ford has officially announced that they are reviving one of their most iconic cars.

This is one of the first official statements from Ford regarding the Bronco since they first teased its comeback in 2017. The Bronco has been a subject of speculation and nobody really knows what it will look like but rumors suggest that it will be a rugged SUV that is based on the new mid-size Ranger, another vehicle that Ford revived. Other rumors stated that it may be similar to a Jeep Wrangler due to the fact that it will have removable doors, a rear-mounted spare tire, boxy style and a good amount of off-road capability. Engine wise, it is stated to have a turbocharged 2.3 liter four-cylinder as the base model engine along with a V-6 or hybrid powertrain option

Be on the lookout for Ford to release a steady trickle of teasers till it is officially produced in order to capitalize on the hype that is already going around the car community. There is still no official word on when or where the Bronco will debut but at least we have an idea that we’ll have to wait a few more months to finally see the real thing.

Are you in the market for for a new vehicle but you’re also on a smaller budget? Well don’t worry because even though the price of new cars are on the rise, you can still get your hands on several new cars that have a sticker price of $16,000 or less.

2019 Chevrolet Spark

With a base price of only $13,220, the Chevy Spark is currently the cheapest car that you can buy in all of America. It is very simple though and the base model doesn’t even come with power windows or power door locks but does still come with some very nice upgrades you can choose.

2019 Ford Fiesta

Coming it at just under the $16,000 mark, this subcompact base model sedan or hatchback includes manual windows but upgrading to the SE would add power windows, keyless entry and cruise control all for an affordable price.

2020 Nissan Versa

For the 2020 model, the Nissan Versa has been fully redesigned which gave this subcompact sedan more front-seat room, new safety technologies and a reliability rating of 4.5/5. Although it isn’t perfect in certain areas, it certainly helps your wallet by only costing a reasonable $14,730.

2020 Hyundai Accent

The all new 2020 Hyundai Accent offers ample room in both the front and rear, which is rare because most subcompact cars are too narrow for adults to fit comfortably in the back seat. The Accent has been given a solid 7.7/10 on its U.S News Score while coming in at $15,195.

2019 Toyota Yaris

The 2019 Yaris comes standard with a low-speed automatic emergency braking system, as well as excellent safety scores that were performed by the National Traffic Safety Administration. It was also given a reliability rating of 4/5, which means it is less expensive to repair over the years versus its competition. Overall, it is a quality car with great features and perfect for anyone with a smaller budgets because it will cost you $15,600.

Make Your Old Car New Again!

Nowadays, we keep our cars much longer than ever before which means you probably wish you could still drive something older still with having modern tech. Instead of buying a new car, just upgrade your old one to be more modern. Below are listed the top tech upgrades that you should do to your older cars to give it a touch of modern.

4. Remote-start kit

These kits have become very popular nowadays and almost every new car has them. But you can simply add your very own to your car today to be able to get your car running before you ever step foot in it. A remote-start kit is great for those winter mornings where you need heat fast or those toasty summer days where you want ice cold A/C in a heartbeat.

3. Amp and speakers

Factory audio systems have become much better over the years but those older systems are lacking and just don’t compare to the modern day stereos. If you enjoy listening to your own music and with great quality, then an aftermarket stereo system and amp is the choice for you!

2. Backup camera

Plenty of cars on the road today are too old to have this modern feature on their cars but has been mandatory in new cars since 2018. Backup cameras are one of the most useful piece of technology in the 21st century for your cabin. You can get a camera that ranges anywhere from one that sends an image straight to your phone, or even one that connects to the head unit that I’ll mention below. It is one of the most needed upgrades for a modern touch of safety.

1. Touchscreen head unit

People really want their phones to be apart of their dashes, just done properly and with the right features available. That’s where a head unit comes into play because it is essentially a phone for the dash of your car that contains apps, contacts and other history from your phone. Purchasing a head unit would allow you to listen to music, use maps and even manage calls. A head unit is a must for those who truly want a modern touch of your car that both looks great and has a wide variety of usage.

Are you still not convinced? Well all of these upgrades combined still will cost you less than the first year’s depreciation on an new car. So how about now, are you convinced yet?

Flying Cars Now A Reality?

The US aircraft giant, Boeing, and the German sports car maker, Porsche, announced on October 10, 2019 that they have teamed up to develop an electric vehicle that has the ability to fly.

They want to explore the premium urban air mobility market and the extension of ground traffic into the air through a fully electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicle.

So basically what they’re saying is that they want to create and electric car that flies.

Although, this announcement did not include details about the amount of money these two companies plan to invest in the effort or a target date or price range.

In this mix as well is Volkswagen AG, Porsche’s parent company, is the world’s largest automaker and has announced a major push into the development of electric vehicles. They are setting a target of building 22 million electric cars over the next 10 years.

They are combining the strengths of two leading global companies to address a key market segment of the future. They believe that in the long term, this could mean moving into the third dimension of travel.

Boeing’s revenue was able to top at $100 billion for the first time in 2018, although its sales will be lower this year due to the grounding of its best selling commercial jet, the 737 Max, due to two accidents that killed 346 people. They have already shown us a prototype of a self-driving electric powered flying car earlier in the year.

Porsche and Boeing, when working together, bring precision engineering, style and innovation to accelerate urban air mobility worldwide, which is a unit that the company has been working on for next generation vehicles and aircraft.

Cars Being Discontinued in 2020

The new 2020 models are arriving on car lots across the country and it’s time for the old models to be sold off but some automakers are making drastic changing by discontinuing some of their models. Listed below are some of the cars being discontinued and why they’re “getting the axe.”

Audi TT

The first generations of the TT helped redefine Audi but the latest models just aren’t as iconic. Audi has decided to remove the TT so they could make room for EV’s and crossovers but there’s rumors that the TT could possibly make a return as an electric sports car.

Cadillac CTS

The CTS is being pulled from Cadillac’s line of cars so it can be replaced by the new CT5. The CTS was able to move on anonymously due to it bland styling so it won’t be missed in that sense but the CTS-V package, that brought sport and luxury together, will be missed.

Front-Engine C7 Chevrolet Corvette

For almost 50 years, a mid-engine had been teased but that tease has finally become reality while the front-engine Corvette is just a memory.

Fiat 500

Sales for Fiat’s in the U.S. are plummeting and the Fiat 500 is the first model to go. Other models, such as the 500X, 500L and 124 Spider aren’t selling very well either so we’ll see what the future has in store for those models.

Nissan 370z Roadster

The Nissan 370z models have been around since 2009 so they are long overdue for a change. Although the roadster version will be kicked to the curb, the coupe version will still be available to purchase for years to come, or is this a sign that the 370z will finally be replaced?

Toyota Prius C

Another car that has lasted longer than we thought (Since 2011) is the Toyota Prius C. The Prius just does not match up to the other electric cars of today due to its poor fuel economy in comparison.

Volkswagen Beetle

Volkswagen is officially killing off the era of the Bug but are ending it with a Final Edition. With the incoming ID Buzz, VW fans aren’t too concerned with the loss of the Bug because they’ve got a lot to be exited about with the new ID Buzz. It’s still saddening to see the most iconic car of VW coming to an end.
